I think you’re missing the point. You’re right, “making eco-friendly changes in your life will always be a good idea”, but you probably only started making changes recently (within the past year). I’m willing to bet the changes you’ve made in your life coincide with the growth of the green fad. Now, there’s nothing wrong with making eco-friendly changes no matter what the reasoning, but acknowledge it’s because of a fad or a cleaver marketing campaign. I’m sure you’ve bought into a number of fads over your life, only to abandon them soon afterwards. Everyone is guilty of this. It’s probably a symptom of a society that’s inundated with marketing. I think Jacob is saying that many people who are making changes now will fall back into the same routine once the green fad becomes stale.
Uh, if you believe this, then you’re going to run into a lot of problems in your life. Hey, I heard that heroin is coming back into style. You should check it out, I think it’s great! Man, I hate those “cleaver” marketing campaigns. Always makin’ me do stuff!
First, what type of problems in my life will I run into? Are you saying our society is not overrun with marketing and cleaver tactics to get people to buy into things? I challenge you to drive down any major highway in this country and not consume some sort of advertisement. That’s the point of marketing and marketing is a huge industry. If you’re saying you aren’t affected by marketing then I think you’re wrong. It’s nearly impossible to not be influenced. “Influenced” doesn’t necessarily mean an advertisement “made you do something”, you said that, not me.
Secondly, I’m not saying the the green fad is a bad thing, believe me. Like I said, there’s nothing wrong with making eco-friendly changes no matter what the reasoning.
Lastly, I’m not sure what the point of your heroine comment was. When is the last time you saw an advertisement for heroine?
